Vancouver, B.C. – Planet Asia hit Fortune Sound Club with his characteristic mix of talent and humility. Local openers Brass Tackz set the stage for the seasoned MC with some genuine rhymes – about making rent, not making millions – and a rare chemistry. They were rapping over beats that were new to them so the timing wasn't perfect, but the tone was consistently hype and positive. There were also opening performances by Okay City, Shottas and The Scale Breakers, who each contributed to setting the tone for the lone Cali Agent.
Asia came out with a real chill vibe, which is always a little surprising considering the militant style he portrays in his music. He and hypeman Tricity started out with a new DJ Muggs joint “Sleeper Cell,” and some old Cali Agents jams, then moving on to selections from The Medicine – “Dilated Agents” and the title track, as well as highlights from The Grand Opening.
From his collab with Muggs, Asia also performed “Pain Language,” “Smoke,” and “That's What It Is,” closing the set with a powerful a capella, which Tricity followed with an equally dope verse. A Planet Asia show is always a good time because he interacts well with the crowd: this time he walked into the audience mid-song to hype it up, and got close with the ladies while performing a jam for the women in the house.
