Drake to host 2011 JUNO Awards in Toronto [News]
Toronto, ON – It seems like forever ago when the Rascalz refused to accept their JUNO Award for Rap Recording of the Year in protest of the mistreatment of hip-hop and claims of racism. That was 1998. Fast forward to present day and quite a bit has changed. In fact, on the award show’s fast approaching 40th anniversary, hip-hop will even be holding down the event’s hosting duties for the first time ever as Drake has just been confirmed for the job. He had this to say about his involvement:
“I am beyond honoured to be hosting this monumental JUNO Awards in the greatest city on Earth. I want to bring a youthful energy to the show and encourage people to be excited about what Canadian music has to offer. See you all at the show.”
As it did 40 years earlier when the JUNO Awards were first launched, this year’s event will be taking place in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre on March 27th. Official nominations will be announced on February 1st.
