Disappointing night for Canada at 53rd Grammy Awards but Arcade Fire goes BIG! [News]
Los Angeles, CA – The red carpet has been rolled up and the 53rd Grammy Award winners have been announced. We’re sorry to report that Canada had a fairly disappointing night, although Arcade Fire surprised everyone by taking home Album of the Year. The indie rock band from Montreal beat out the likes of Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Lady Antebellum. Lady Antebellum was the night’s big winner, taking home awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Country Performance By a Duo Or Group, Best Country Song, and Best Country Album.
Canada was looking hopeful in the Best New Artist category with both Drake and Justin Bieber receiving nominations, but a relatively unknown talented jazz singer from Portland named Esperanza Spalding snatched it from both of them… and to everyone’s shock. Despite the four nominations Drake unfortunately finished the evening empty handed. That being said, Drake’s friend and producer Boi-1da played his part in Eminem’s “Not Afraid’ single winning Best Rap Solo Performance and both 1da and Vancouver producer Chin Injeti should be given a hand for Em’s Recovery project winning Best Rap Album. Bieber performed, Drizzy hit the stage with RiRi, Cee-Lo dressed like a peacock and crazy Lady Gaga hit not only the stage, but also the red carpet earlier in the night inside an incubator-like egg contraption. Oh yeah, Canadian music legend Neil Young finally won a Grammy for his music – an honour considered long overdue by many. Congrats to all of the night’s nominees and winners.
