This Summer Jam or That Summer Jam? [Photos/Review]
Toronto, ON – Flow 93.5 FM adopted Summer Jam on Friday July 15th and brought with it a stacked card of Canadian music stars.
If the name sounds familiar, it’s because you’ve heard it before. Originally, Summer Jam was an annual concert held by Hot97 in New Jersey. But with its success, more summer jams have popped up across the United States. And in 2010, Kitchener, Ontario hosted the first “Summer Jam” north of the boarder. That particular concert proved similar to Hot97’s tradition in being held outdoors and featuring acts like Rick Ross, Fabolous and T-Pain, although it produced by Frontrow & BMW Promotions.
However, just two days before the anniversary of that Summer Jam, Flow 93.5 held their own. Aside from the change in concert producers/promoters, two main differences separated this event from last year’s. This year’s Summer Jam was indoors (Masonic Temple) and featured all Canadian talent.
A packed house watched the three hour concert featuring acts (in order of appearance) A-Game, Belly, P. Reign, Shawn Desman, Melanie Fiona & Kardinal. Guest appearances included JRDN, Scott Jackson, Solitair & Danny Fernandez. HipHopCanada’s newest staff photographer Julian Frank (@JFrankMusic) as well as Central Region Editor Jonathon “Bizz” Brown (@thatsbizz) were in attendance for a truly star-driven night in Canadian popular music.
