Freshest Celebrate 4 Years, Dom Kennedy Visits [News]

Vancouver, B.C. – Hard to believe it’s been four years since Marvel, Seko, Rico Uno and Kutcorners first started pooling their talents and rocking parties together. We appreciate their studious efforts and butt-shaking beats, and will be celebrating their anniversary – alongside the fabulous Dom Kennedy – on August 24th at Fortune Sound Club. Check out what the boys had to say about their longstanding partnership, then watch a Dom Kennedy vid to whet your appetite for the big show.

freshest

HipHopCanada: What brought you all together?

Freshest: Beatstreet records, mutual friends, Rico’s constant supply of snacks, Matt’s bad jokes, group slang, appreciation for the finer things,
new music, fashion, and we solidified as a crew in 2007 when we started doing our Vancouver-based night Higher Ground.

HipHopCanada: Why do you think you’ve lasted strong for 4 years?

Freshest: Strong friendship first and foremost. Being involved with a versatile selection of shows and events. Constantly putting out mixes and tracks.

HipHopCanada: Greatest adventure as a team?

Freshest: 6 am basement afterparties in hood-ass North End Winnepeg with oysters, B-52s jams, swat teams, and the homies Cass, DJ Co-Op and Cadence Weapon.

HipHopCanada: Most embarrassing moment for anyone in the team?

Freshest: Spending an hour over drinks trying to answer this question, failing, only to have our server tell us her embarrassing story of pre-pubescent girl crush for South-African rugby player.

HipHopCanada: What you’re looking forward to most about the anniversary show.

Freshest: Rap jams, girls and drunk.

Check out a Dom Kennedy vid before you go…

Amalia Judith was born in Winnipeg, MB and quickly whisked away to a childhood of travel throughout California, England, Germany and predominantly Pakistan. In 2006 she completed an honor's degree in English Literature, which left her quite jobless and alone in East Van. Amalia cut her teeth at abortmag.com, Canada's darkest counter-culture magazine, moving on to contribute words and flicks to HipHopCanada: she's currently the Western Canadian Editor and has had the privilege to interview hip-hop icons like Lil' Kim, Drake, Dead Prez, Big Boi, Pharrell Williams and half of Wu-Tang. Amalia also works as a Key Worker educator and advocate for families affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, as well as heading up Team Heartbreak, a media production company that pairs community involvement and artistic movements. She'd love to write you the best bio you've ever had or develop your branding strategy - www.teamheartbreak.com for more info.
