Matt “Dutch” Garner discusses Bad News Brown at memorial show, Feb. 2011 [Video]

Montreal, QC – Just a few months prior to the tragic and senseless death of HipHopCanada Montreal rep, Matt “Dutch “Garner (July 6, 1982 – November 11, 2011), the young promoter and entrepreneur was backstage with one of our Toronto reps, Logik of Stolen From Africa, at the Paul “Bad News Brown” Frappier (May 8, 1977 – February 11, 2011)  memorial concert. Bad News Brown, or BNB for short, was brutally beaten and shot to death on February 11th and his murder remains unsolved. Police have stated that they have yet to rule out whether or not Matt and BNB’s murders were connected. Regardless, Montreal had lost 2 incredibly huge members of the scene in a span of only 9 months.

In this video, filmed on BNB’s birthday, Matt talks about his deceased friend and colleague, and praises the city for coming together so strongly that night to mourn his loss. The city is now in state of shock and mourning Matt’s death as well as the death of his friend, Einick Gitelman. Matt’s death is a void that will never be filled in the Montreal scene. It would be hard to find someone in the city that can’t credit Matt for some type of help or support along the way.

Rest In Peace, Matt and Einick. You will be missed.
