Shad debates at Canada Reads 2012; makes cameo in Hey Ocean! video [News]

Vancouver, B.C.Shad recently took part in CBC’s Canada Reads 2012 debates. Here’s how Canada Reads works for those that are unfamiliar. From September to October, Canada Reads asks for recommendations from readers, people in the literary business and Canadian celebrities. After a voting process, the list is narrowed down to 40 titles which are subsequently voted down to create the Top 10 list, Canada Reads: True Stories Top 10. A celebrity panel is selected and celebrity panel is asked to chose from the list of 10 books to defend in a debate set to take place from February 6-9, 2012.

Shad’s choice Something Fierce: Memoirs of a Revolutionary Daughter was crowned the winner after four days of heated debate (Watch). Congrats to Carmen Aguirre.

Shad fans can catch also catch a brief cameo from the Juno Award-winning artist in a new video from Vancouver pop crew Hey Ocean! Hey Ocean! recently signed a deal with Universal and are preparing for their long-delayed Is album. “Big Blue Wave” shares the same name as the EP the song is featured on and Shad first appears around the 1:31 mark. Previously, Shad appeared on Hey Ocean!’s 2008 album It’s Easier To Be Somebody. You can watch the Josh Huculiak-directed video on YouTube or by clicking the jump.
