Wave 2 Profiles

Tre Leji

“Futuristic boom-bap” powerhouse Tre Leji erupted onto the scene in late 2009 with a wild and refreshing energy reminiscent of hip-hop’s golden age. The release of their debut EP, “JMC Presents…”, marked the beginning of what promises to be the future of Canadian urban music as a whole.

Comprised of Toronto natives and childhood friends Guzo Lou (Prod/MC), South P! (Prod/ MC) and Dubby Free Lo (MC/ Hypeman), the group came together not instantaneously, but rather by evolutionary process. All three members were introduced to the stage in their middle school days, each through separate musical endeavours, organizing and performing at their own shows, as well as composing original music of various genres, providing the common ground for the three to combine as one. When they come together as the “TL” this experience is evident. With sounds described as a mix between A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang and Outkast, their live show is not to be missed.

Victoria Sol

Real. Rising. Raw: these three words best come to mind when describing Victoria Sol’s emotional brand of Soul/R&B. Brought up in Brampton, Ontario, she surpassed her competitors winning local singing competitions with her gut-wrenching vocals. Now she looks to take on that same attitude when compared to her contemporaries to add new texture to the Toronto music scene. Not much else needs to be said, as she likes to let her music speak for itself.

D.O. has defied the odds as a rapper from Canada, becoming a certified international artist, a successful record label executive and a socially active community ambassador. He set a Guinness World Record when he freestyled for nearly nine hours in 2003, sold tens of thousands of CDs, hit #1 on U.S. College Hip Hop Radio charts and travelled the world performing for sold out crowds; D.O.’s success is defined in his own terms.

Somewhere between Tupac (in terms of social consciousness), Common (in terms of artistic integrity) and Jay-Z (in terms of business sense), stands D.O., a man who is bounded only by the hours in a day. And in 2012, D.O. will make his biggest splash to date with the release of Heavy In The Game. The album features the Classified produced singles “She Likes You” and “It’s On.”

Rising Canadian R&B artist 2Z is making noise in the urban music scene. The young singer-songwriter-producer has earned a name for himself throughout Toronto with his soulful voice and heartfelt performances, sharing the stage with great Hip Hop and R&B artists in North America, including Maestro Fresh Wes, Karl Wolf, Glenn Lewis, D-12, Lloyd and many more. Since his earliest taste of the spotlight, this natural-born entertainer has put his heart and soul into perfecting his craft; polishing his skills of production, writing, singing and rapping while drawing inspiration from legends such as Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.

2Z has always prided himself in writing and producing original music that not only sounds good, but also resonates with the listener. After the devastation following the recent Tsunami in Japan, 2Z was inspired to write and produce “To Save A Life”, a track that would go on to be recognized by the Canadian Red Cross Foundation as the official Canada Rocks 4 Japan benefit concert theme song. Soon after 2Z’s critically acclaimed smash hit single “50/50” was nominated at the 2010 Stylus Awards for Top R&B Single of the Year. The track cleared the way for the following summer’s official debut mixtape, “Tuzzday”, which garnered more than a quarter-million downloads in just a few weeks. With major performances at venues such as Yonge and Dundas Square, The Sound Academy and The Opera House on his ever-expanding resume.
