Calgary, AB- You know that we at hiphopcanada are going to keep you up on the freshest and realest hip-hop coming through the region, right?  So it’s only right that we let you know the God MC is coming round for his first time ever in the Prairies!  Commonwealth Bar and illMovements are bringing Rakim to Calgary on May 23rd, check after the jump for more details.

Rakim - Calgary<

From the pioneering days with Eric B., to 2009′s The Seventh Seal, Rakim’s been holding down true hip hop for longer than most have been around.  Only now is he bringing that original east coast knowledge up to our spot.  The illMovements crew must be in an extra giving mood these days too.  Not only are we treated to the master himself, but we get round two of the Calgary MC Showcase Cypher!  If you pay attention to the scene in Calgary, these names need no introduction. We’ve already given you a taste of B. Nelson, Transit and J. Thaddeus right here.  But check for Beni J, Sinzere, Deezus, New L, Rubix, Whatevski, Tarren, Dizzy D and Philly-O going off the top too!  Still some tickets left, so check rakim.zoobis.com and we’ll see you, Rakim, the God MC, Rakim Allah, and The Alpha and Omega of Hip Hop there.

In 2006 she completed an honor's degree in English Literature, which left her quite jobless and alone in East Van. Amalia cut her teeth at abortmag.com, Canada's darkest counter-culture magazine, moving on to contribute words and flicks to HipHopCanada: she's currently a member of HipHopCanada's West Coast team and has had the privilege to interview hip-hop icons like Lil' Kim, Pusha T, Big Boi, Three Six Mafia, Yelawolf, Pharrell Williams and most of Wu-Tang. Amalia also works as a Key Worker educator and advocate for families affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, as well as heading up Team Heartbreak, a media production company that pairs community involvement and artistic movements.
