The tone of the album quickly changes on the track “Summertime” to a chill vibe; the project has an unexpected East Coast feel that is reinforced by “Where Da Gunz At (Interlude)” wherein Ghost has a conversation with a fan who wants hardcore, gangster tracks from him. The most memorable track is “Bitches By the Dozen” – which samples Tupac’s “Fuck All Y’all” – for its solid beat and on-point lyricism.
While Ghost makes it clear that he’s hungry for success throughout the album, a softer side of him is shown on “Awwh Yeah” where he raps about those closest to him and “Missing You” which is about his relationship with a girl. There’s no doubt that Ghost has flow, but the content is about nothing we haven’t heard before – the regular hoes, weed, and money. Before the start of his musical ventures, Ghost was better known for his amazing skills as a street ball player who has travelled worldwide because of it; material based on that would have been a lot more interesting.
Ghost has a lot of potential and just needs a little push in the right direction. Other than that, the hard work put in on Listen or Die has paid off and proves that Ghost is definitely an artist that shouldn’t be slept on.
