New Era Caps and Lotus Leaf host Toronto media in a Blue Jays suite [Article/Photos]

Toronto, ON – This past Monday, I was at the Toronto Blue Jays game in a VIP suite at the Skydome (I will forever call it this), with a bunch of other Toronto media professionals. New Era Caps and Lotus Leaf Communications are the two companies that put the event together. New Era gave out tons of swag, like gift cards, snapbacks and fitteds for everyone to take home, and obviously the food was amazing. But, the best part was the interesting people that came through! There was media representation from every stream: sports, music, culture, fashion and lifestyle! Having so many creative minds in the same place was dope. Read the rest after the jump.

I was talking with Julia Che, the President of Lotus Leaf Communications, who said that bringing these kinds of people together in one room can act as an alternative to the usual way of info sharing and gathering. For example, an individual like me could easily write a piece on the event and the people there instead of having to set up a one on one interviews individually. In an environment like a suite at a Jays game, interacting happens so easily. It was definitely a cool idea and I think should be incorporated more when it comes down to creating connections, stories and business opportunities.

From 1 Love T.O building a legacy around Toronto culture, Cabbie interviewing some of the most popular athletes in sports, and TV producers and writers establishing Toronto’s entertainment industry on a world stage, everyone in that room was doing something great and I was happy to be apart of it. A very big thank you to Julia Che and Stacey at Lotus Leaf for inviting HipHopCanada and getting New Era there as well. Shout-out to Katherine Kulczyk from New Era for showing love with all the swag. Katherine mentioned that New Era is finally doing NFL gear now so stay tuned for that!

Natasha was born and raised in Toronto. She graduated from York University almost 2 years ago and since then has co-founded a youth led, social enterprise called The Next Edition which uses media and art to engage youth with their community. For the past year and a half she has been working with young aspiring artists who are looking for a way to showcase their skills and have their voice heard. With juggling weekly meetings, managing a website, and planning events for hundreds of people Natasha takes refuge in urban music. Researching and knowing the latest headlines, and newest tracks in the hip-hop world is something that she loves. But more importantly for her hip-hop is a lot more than just a genre of music, it is a culture and it has shaped who she is today. Finding a way to combine her passion for music, the knowledge she has gained from working with young people and the issues she has seen in the community is a goal Natasha would like to achieve in the near future. Recently, Natasha has taken on PR work for rappers and DJs.
