P. Reign – Angels [Video]
Toronto, ON – It’s been exactly one month since a fatal shooting at a BBQ on Danzig Street in Scarborough that left two young people dead and 23 injured. The victims were Shyanne Charles, 14, who had just completed Grade 9 at West Hill Collegiate Institute, and Joshua Yasa, 23, co-owner of the popular Goodfellas Barber Lounge in Ajax – both were considered innocent bystanders and not at all involved in the dispute that lead to the brazen shooting. So far, only Nahom Tsegazab, 19, has been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.
While the BBQ was organized for children of the Danzig Street and Morningside Avenue area communities, it was attended by several rappers local to the community, including Reps Up Canada’s P. Reign. On July 20th, P. Reign organized the Angels March demonstration as the community came together to mourn and to speak out against gun violence sweeping through the city. Along with the march itself, P released a song called “Angels,” in honor of the two fallen victims.
Today we post the Footage-directed music video for “Angels,” which originally popped online with this message: “Let this video serve as a visual for others to recognize the community coming together to make a change in tough times like these.” The video features footage of the Angels March, news coverage and various images of Shyanne and Joshua. If you haven’t seen it already, please take it in and share with your friends to spread the message.
Rest In Peace, Shyanne and Joshua. “Angels” is our Song of the Day in honor of the victims.
“…if we don’t start inspiring these kids to dream.” – P. Reign
