Swollen Members headline Kitchissippi Music Festival on Aug. 18 [News]
Foresters Falls, ON – August 28th will be a big day for Swollen Members’ MC, Madchild. On that day, he officially releases Dope Sick, a solo album debut inspired by his harrowing experience with drug addiction. His relentless fight with addiction is still news to some, but it’s one of the main reasons the Swollen collective stepped away from the limelight after an impressive run at the top of the Canadian hip-hop scene between the late 90’s and 2006.
However, for the past 23 months, Madchild has been sober, completely abandoned his need for Oxycontin and put his career back on track — netting a JUNO nomination with his Swollen Members bandmates for their critically acclaimed Daggermouth album and working hard towards Dope Sick’s release. Over the summer, the group recorded their new album Beautiful Death Machine and have announced a November release date for the project.
Over the years, Swollen became known as one of the hypest live acts in Canada. Their stage presence is impecable and you can count on their legions of fans to sing along with every lyric spit. Lately the group has been touring quite a bit. On August 1st, we announced that Maddy would be joining Tech N9ne for a 22-date tour across Canada, including a September 29th stop inside Ottawa’s Ritual Nightclub.
But Ottawa heads can catch the Vancouver trio headlining the Kitchissippi Music Festival this coming weekend (August 18) if they’re willing to make a bit of a drive. Google Maps indicates the distance is 126 km away, and roughly an hour and 45 minutes via Trans-Canada highways.
The Kitchissippi Music Festival is a weekend long event that combines cool outdoor activies like white water rafting and bungee jumping with live concerts. Joining Swollen is Toronto’s Die Mannequin (known within Canadian hip-hop circles for collaborating with Peter Jackson on “Ma’ma”), Ottawa’s Wicked Mercy, Trees of Ontario and Ilvekyo. You can find more details about the festival on their official website, KitchissippiFest.com.
