Odd Future at The Vogue in Vancouver (Live) [Review/Photos]
Vancouver, BC – The sold out Odd Future show created an atmosphere of sweat and futuristic oddity, and The Vogue was prepared for an aggressive crowd with extra security and an intensive pat-down at the door. Awaiting the OF hip-hop collective, the youthful crowd was rowdily stretching their juvenile limbs into mosh pits before the show had even started.

In an exploding start, Taco broke out onstage with DMX’s “Party Up in Here” then fired into Lil’ Jon’s “Get Low.” Taco got rowdy quick, getting topless and crowd surfing into Kanye’s “I Don’t Like” remix. Then, Domo Genesis and Hodgy Beats entered The Vogue with “Bitches” turning up the crowd’s aggression knob. Next, Tyler the Creator hopped onstage to say “What’s up motherfuckas” greeted with reverberating yowls from the audience. OFWGKTA proceeded to play “Check My French” and Domo Genesis ended the song bragging ‘I’m like a young Slick Rick.” Soon after Mike G entered the stage as Hodgy Beats flipped into the audience to surf the crowd like ocean waves. Tyler, a straight edge member of OF, deadpanned “I’m fucking drunk” though the crowd gave a screaming approval – they didn’t seem to catch the sarcasm.
The women in the audience were constantly throwing bras and panties onstage, though the OF crew were adamantly tossing them right back. Domo Genesis jumped into the chaotic crowd and surfed his way back to the stage and hollered, “Somebody stole my sock. This is fucked up. Who the fuck steals a motherfucking sock? Fondling my sweaty ass right-foot sock. Some bullshit.”
The frenzied crowd could not get enough of Odd Future. One girl used the audience as a staircase to clamor onstage and proclaim her undying love to Tyler the Creator, who, unfazed, literally shrugged it off as she was pulled offstage by bouncers. During “Rella,” Domo Genesis used his towel as a cape while Taco fluttered it out behind him as the two pranced around onstage. Tyler fittingly sprinkled rose petals on Mike G while he was freestyling, “don’t judge a book by its cover, I’ma motherfuckin’ king.”
To Tyler’s amusement someone handed him five bucks right before he blasted into “Yonkers,” getting the crowd to sing the whole song with him. Even though Jasper didn’t make is across the border, the OF crew still played “We Got Bitches” with Mike G getting shirtless as Domo Genesis flipped into the crowd to surf. Tyler the Creator then lifted his shirt and stuck out his tongue at the crowd, teasing the aroused audience.
Though most of the crowd was too fucked up to notice Tyler the Creator whispered into the mike “I farted” before rolling into the song “Rolling Papers.” He then proceeded to point at a girl upstairs flashing her titties, achieving the desired spotlight on her ripe grapefruits and yelling “Where the milk at?” Hodgy Beats and Tyler fired into an angry serenade of “Sandwiches,” leaving the stage with a howling growl and a “Peace out Vancouver, we’ll be back.”
While the show didn’t quite achieve the rowdiness that their past Police-broken shows have, their playful crowd interaction and energy left people sweaty with bliss, either savoring adolescence or commemorating it.
