KAi Skywalker – #NEO [Mixtape] [Review]
Vancouver, BC – In a city where artists are popping up left, right and center, it’s hard to hold your own. Luckily for KAi Skywalker, his creative lyricism and on-point delivery has lead him stand out naturally . So get ready to discover the 23-year-old’s latest release, #NEO.
The album starts off with eerie-toned tracks that emulate KAi’s hunger for the game, and with lyrics like “Out the icebox/ That’s why I’m never stressed/ Mind stay high, Mount Everest” on the title track, I’m sure it won’t be long till he’s stuffed. Probably the most anticipated track on the album, “Grow Up”, features Roc Nation’s own Casey Veggies and has definitely lived up to it’s hype. The following tracks, which includes favorites like “Pray” and “Queen”, have a chill vibe and showcase his skills as a lyrical technician. What’s unique about the album is that although KAi is a West coast native, #NEO has a different sound compared to anything else being put out by up-and-coming Vancity artists. Regardless, KAi repped hard for his city from start to finish.
While every track from #NEO is enjoyable, cutting out the weaker tracks and condensing the album would have gone a long way – a long album can get very boring, very quickly. Despite the minor imperfections, KAi Skywalker has presented us with a carefully crafted and straight up dope piece of art, a quality rarely found in emerging artists. It’ll be interesting to see where he’ll grow from here. If you’re curious #NEO can be downloaded here.
