Andreena performs music from new mixtape at The Known Unknown [Video]

Toronto, ON – The Known Unknown is an amazing monthly showcase series, created by Tika Simone, that gives rising Toronto artists an opportunity to perform for a live audience. It’s a great way for music lovers in the city to find out who they are and for them to gain a following. Last week was the first installment of The Known Unknown in the new year and I had the pleasure of joining a packed house at Wrongbar to watch and listen to the many talented artists within the city. This particular showcase featured headliner Andreena, formerly known as Andreena Mill, alongside a full band. The songstress performed exclusive cuts off her upcoming mixtape entitled, Naked. Other performances included current students and alumni of The Remix Project, such as Vanessa Lu, Shocka and Owen “O’Sound” Lee, as well as John River, Sean Leon, Never, Shadrack, Dixon, Juvon Taylor and Sola.

2013 is going to be a big year for Andreena, she has completely re-branded herself and is embarking on a new journey in her musical career, hence the title of her new mixtape. She has started a weekly online series called Hip Hop Chronicle’s where she performs piano-dubbed covers of her favourite current and old hip-hop songs. Natasha was born and raised in Toronto. She graduated from York University almost 2 years ago and since then has co-founded a youth led, social enterprise called The Next Edition which uses media and art to engage youth with their community. For the past year and a half she has been working with young aspiring artists who are looking for a way to showcase their skills and have their voice heard. With juggling weekly meetings, managing a website, and planning events for hundreds of people Natasha takes refuge in urban music. Researching and knowing the latest headlines, and newest tracks in the hip-hop world is something that she loves. But more importantly for her hip-hop is a lot more than just a genre of music, it is a culture and it has shaped who she is today. Finding a way to combine her passion for music, the knowledge she has gained from working with young people and the issues she has seen in the community is a goal Natasha would like to achieve in the near future. Recently, Natasha has taken on PR work for rappers and DJs.
