Doug Crawford – who now resides in Edmonton, AB – brings a down-to-earth feel and produces an impetuous flow to his music that we love to hear. Among the involvement with Secret Society and the launch of his solo career, Doug Crawford has performed with internationally known artists such as Swollen Members, Snoop Dogg, The Game, and Mobb Deep to name a few. This driven rapper is without a doubt going to be delivering big things in 2013 that you surely do not want to miss out on.
HipHopCanada: What sparked a love of hip-hop in you, and what steps have you taken to be part of the scene?
Doug Crawford: I grew up in Los Angeles and as a kid Power106 was what I was grew up on. Dr Dre, Ghetto Boyz, Ice Cube, and LL Cool J was in my head when I went to bed & when I woke up. I’ve tried my best to be a part of as many local shows as I can in Alberta and BC no matter how big or small, to keep the movement and the music going.
HipHopCanada: What elements of hip-hop culture appeal to you most?
Doug Crawford: Being able to take what I feel and what I’ve been through, turn words into music and have people know exactly what I’m feeling when I wrote it.
HipHopCanada: Specify your craft – what part of it are you the most talented at, and what you work the hardest on?
Doug Crawford: I’m most talented in making things happen, and always building. Networking and making opportunities out of every situation. I work hardest on improving my music and changing it with the times.
HipHopCanada: Who do you feel you represent?
Doug Crawford: I feel I represent myself, my hometown Kelowna, BC and all of the people who want to make it and never will because they lack knowledge, guts, and/or drive.
HipHopCanada: What are some signs of success in your musical career?
Doug Crawford: In 2012 I toured 4 continents and half of the world. 2013 is shaping up to be even bigger. Having fans on all my social networking sites from Norway, Romania, and New Zealand etc. is surreal at times.
HipHopCanada: What have been some of the biggest roadblocks and how have you surpassed them?
Doug Crawford: My roadblocks have been defining myself as a solo artist instead of relying on other people in a group and making a dream into a profitable business as you need to pay bills and need money to make music and get it out there.
HipHopCanada: What is your overall goal for your career in hip-hop?
Doug Crawford: My overall goal when I wrap up is to have everyone in Canada who listens to rap know who I am and have my CD in their iPod/Stereo/YouTube at least once.
HipHopCanada: What people or groups do you see as being instrumental in helping you to achieve that goal?
Doug Crawford: My hometown support network & the love Kelowna shows me makes that an everyday reality.
HipHopCanada: Where can fans find you? Both in person and online?
Doug Crawford: You can find me on
HipHopCanada: Any last words for the HipHopCanada community?
Doug Crawford: Grab my new album Perseverance. You won’t be disappointed.
