Los Angeles, CA – After 13 nominations, Toronto’s own Aubrey Drake Graham has won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. Take Care, Drake’s sophomore album, was released November 15, 2011 on Young Money / Cash Money Records. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 631,000 copies in its first week and has since been certified Platinum. In Canada, Take Care debuted at number one on Nielsen Soundscan’s Canadian Albums Chart, selling 48,000 copies in its first week.

This isn’t the first accolade Take Care has received. It achieved long-listed nominee status at the 2012 Polaris Music Awards and was ranked in year-end top 10 lists by a ton of music critic including the Los Angeles Times and New York Times which ranked the album as Best Album of 2012. Complex went as far as naming the album one of the classic albums of the past decade.

The award was given out in a pre-show ceremony but Drizzy was not there to accept it. However, he was in attendance at the actual Grammy Awards Sunday night, rocking a tuxedo. Congrats to Drake and the OVO team!

In other rap / hip-hop related Grammy news, “N****s In Paris” won Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song, which is the 2 other categories Drake was nominated in.
