#SOTD | Muzion – Lounge With Us (Rock On) / La Vi Ti Neg [Video]

Montreal, QC – I’m stepping away for a week so I’ve pre-scheduled some new updates for our Song of the Day feature. For the next week the Song of the Day will feature some my favourite Canadian hip-hop songs from the 90’s.

Kicking things off is “Lounge With Us (Rock On),” my personal favourite from Montreal trio Muzion, which consisted of Dramatik, Imposs and his sister J-Kyll. The post also contains the hit single “La Vi Ti Neg” which had a huge impact in Haiti, Canada, France and various other countries. Both songs appeared on their Mentalité Moune Morne… (Ils n’ont pas compris) debut on VIK Recordings in 1999. The group also had some notable collaborations with Wyclef on his Welcome to Haiti: Creole 101 album. The songs, including “President” and “24 Heures à Vivre (67 Montréal St-Michel),” were featured as bonus songs on the US versions of the release. “24 Heures à Vivre” was a huge hit in France and went on to win the “Prix Mirroir de la chanson d’expression française” (the Mirror Award for song in French expression).

I remember being 17 interviewing the group when they were in town for a show at Ottawa’s Bablyon Nightclub. Unfortunately they didn’t get the biggest turn out that night but they remained upbeat and put on a great performance. Check out videos for both songs after the jump. You’ll also find footage of an April 2012 performance of the song at Montreal’s Club Soda.
