Toronto, ON – This week’s Song of the Day segment has featured some personal Canadian hip-hop picks from the 90′s.

What better way to wrap the week up than with what many would consider to be the biggest Canadian rap record to drop that decade. Of course, none other than the anthem “Northern Touch” by the Rascalz. The song was produced by DJ Kemo and it features Checkmate, Kardinal Offishall, Thrust and Choclair.

The song was featured on the Cash Crop (ViK Recordings/BMG Canada) album although it did not appear on the project’s earlier pressings. The video, available after the jump, was directed by Little X and features the lovely Jessica Rabbit aka Melyssa Ford. It was Ford’s second music video, having appeared in “The Thing To Do” by Glenn Lewis the year before in 1997.

In 1999, the Rascalz won a Juno Award for the record, and performed it live at the ceremony. The song remains one of the most recognizable records in Canadian hip-hop history.
