Classified and The Weeknd pick up first Juno Awards [News]

Regina, SK – East coast rapper Classified has picked up the first Juno Award of his career. Class picked up the award for Rap Recording of the Year for his hit single, “Inner Ninja.” The song faced some tough competition that included Madchild, Rich Kidd/SonReal, JD Era and Maestro Fresh Wes. Maestro actually won the first ever award handed out in this category 22 years earlier.

Meanwhile, R&B singer-songwriter The Weeknd also picked up his very first Juno Award, winning the Breakthrough Artist of the Year category. The Weeknd soon found himself in the winner’s circle again by winning the R&B/Soul Recording of the Year category.

In other Juno Awards news, the Video of the Year award (sponsored by MuchFACT) was presented to Drake’s “HYFR (Hell Ya Fucking Right)” directed by Toronto’s own Director X. We’ll be offering complete updates on all the winners for tomorrow’s award show. Congrats to all of the winners and nominees! Stay tuned.
