Macklemore: Longest-running No. 1 rap song ever with “Thrift Shop” [News]

Seattle, WA – “Thrift Shop” is officially the longest running No. 1 song on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

The song by Macklemore and producer Ryan Lewis has now been on the chart in the number one position for 12 weeks straight. The previous record had a Drake connection as DJ Khaled’s “I’m On One” lasted 11 weeks in the top position.

“Thrift Shop” has numerous accolades and this Billboard accomplishment is only the latest. The video for “Thrift Shop” has been viewed over 200 million times on YouTube and the single has moved 2.2 million copies. “Thrift Shop” was featured on Macklemore’s debut studio album, The Heist, which was released on October 9, 2012. It moved just over 75K the first week, debuting at number 2 on the US Billboard 200 chart behind only Mumford & Sons’ Babel.

On April 3rd 2013, it was announced that the album has reached Gold status, with over 500,000 copies sold. The album has peaked at No. 1 on both the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and US Billboard Top Rap Albums charts.

I just heard this the other day. It’s a pretty good rap song. Anytime you have a song on top of the charts for that long, that’s really saying something.

Macklemore should get ready and put out another album asap before this gets so huge he can’t follow it up
