Kicking it with Rahzel in Calgary [Interview]

Calgary, AB – The legendary beatboxer, Rahzel, also known as the “Godfather of Noize,” came all the way up from New York last month for a single Canadian show on Jun. 15 at Calgary’s Republik Nightclub. The show was presented by our friends over at True Rhythm and Epic Proportions, and featured a showcase of local beatboxers and MCs as openers for Rahzel’s headlining performance. Rahzel is a former member of The Roots, and is known for his ability to simultaneously beatbox and rap. The show was hosted by local MC Bedroc Ox, and included performances by beatboxers Eazy G, Busy Beatz, Puppet Master, and more. Though the show didn’t wind down until well into the early morning, Rahzel took the time to sit down with HipHopCanada’s Sarosh Rizvi to chop it up. Rahzel gave us a proper education in keeping it fresh, beatbox battle culture, and Bobby McFerrin. Did you know that Bobby McFerrin has put out at least 20 albums? We didn’t, either. It’s safe to say that Rahzel schooled us. Check out the interview after the jump.
