Pat Stay talks World Domination 4, Arcane & the King of the Dot chain [Interview]

Dartmouth, NSOriginally posted July 4, 2013Pat Stay is the most recognized battler to rise out of the Nova Scotian Elements League (circa 2006) and is one of the most dominant and consistent rappers in King of the Dot history. For the unfortunate souls who have never seen one of his battles, he balances humour and raw aggressive lyrics perfectly in an attempt to humiliate and assassinate the character of his competition.

In 2009, Pat Stay had a first rate performance in his King of the Dot debut and walked away with the win, $500, and a trophy for battle of the night. This was the first step for him on a long road to sit on the throne where, instead of a crown, the king wears a chain. The famed King of the Dot chain has been worn by several MCs, but it is once again up for grabs.

The Darkside representative is a seasoned vet when it comes to battle rap and once in the ring is an umtamable beast that will decapitate anyone that is put in front of him (legends included). I had the honour of witnessing his destructively effective style live back in January when he bucked heads with the also well seasoned vet Math Hoffa at Blackout 3. He has also drawn blood in bouts with Marv Won, Head Ice, The Saurus, Arsonal, Shotty Horroh and the special battle against Hollohan which was ranked #1 in King of the Dot’s top 25 battles. Pat Stay has been the main event at all of the King of the Dot World Domination events, currently has over 2.5 million combined views on YouTube and is considered by many to be the most deserving battler to get a title shot.

Pat Stay: Q&A

Written by 9_4 The ComicBook Rapper (@9thilly) for HipHopCanada

HipHopCanada: You previously said that you did not want to battle Arcane for the chain, what changed your mind?

Pat Stay: It’s no secret that the value of the King of the Dot chain has went down to the point where some people don’t even care about it anymore and I feel like I owe it to King of the Dot and to Canada to give that title back, to give that chain some value and some purpose. Have a real champ take care of it and build King of the Dot back up.

HipHopCanada: A lot of fans have said that out of all the battlers in the league, you are the most deserving of a title shot, why do you think that is?

Pat Stay: I’ve been the most consistent as far as bringing classics, I don’t have like 79 battles like all these other guys but every battle I do they’re pushing a lot of views, bringing a lot of people. It’s usually classic after classic.

HipHopCanada: Do you think it will be too predictable in the battle to talk about the Arcane ghost writing allegations or do you think it’s a topic that needs to be addressed?

Pat Stay: Yes. It’s too predictable. I think Dizaster played it out and whether people know it or not, 90% of people in the league get other people to write their shit. That’s the truth.

HipHopCanada: Will you battle Dizaster if you win against Arcane?

Pat Stay: Yes, but he doesn’t deserve it. I’m going to be addressing that myself later on.

HipHopCanada: Would you ever battle Hollow Da Don and if so would you want it to be on a KOTD stage, URL stage or does it not matter as long as the battle happens?

Pat Stay: Yes I would and it wouldn’t matter what stage, I would actually prefer it be in his hometown.

HipHopCanada: Who do you think are the top battlers in King of the Dot right now?

Pat Stay: From Canada I’d say Hollohan, Bender, and Loe Pesci. On the West Coast I like Daylyt a lot, he’s real dope.

HipHopCanada: What is your current relationship with Hollohan?

Pat Stay: Me and Hollohan will always be friends no matter what because we’ve known each our entire lives pretty much – battle or rap or anything couldn’t fade that. We’ll always be friends no matter what.

HipHopCanada: When can we expect more music from Pat Stay (album, mixtape)?

Pat Stay: Man, I wish it could be any day soon, but I can’t give an exact date. I’m trying to work myself back into the studio, it’s like trying to learn to ride a bike again, it’s been so long, but hopefully sooner than later.

HipHopCanada: Where can fans purchase “Sucka Free Boss” clothing?

Pat Stay: Anybody who wants “Sucka Free Boss” clothing can go to

Pat Stay vs. Arcane goes down at World Domination 4 in Toronto August 23 and 24.
