Toronto, ON – Talent. It’s just not enough in today’s music industry to just have… talent.
There are thousands of Canadians out there that are incredibly talented. However they just will not make it in the music industry. Why? They have to learn more than just their craft. Social networking, producing, and marketing are just a few of the skills that today’s average artist need to make it in the industry. Then what? Where does the money come from? Now you have to add accounting and business planning to the multitude of skills that you have to acquire. Because YOU are now your product, and You are also your brand. But, how were you to know any of this? You are just an artist, producer, sound engineer etc., who has become good at what you do. But it is that same lack of knowledge that can lead to failure.
That is where the inspiration for the Canadian Urban Music Conference (CUMC) originated. Click the jump for more details.
CUMC is Canada’s first city-style music conference with intimate and interactive seminars, VIP events at Private Members Clubs and live concerts for cutting edge music including hip-hop, R&B and pop. It provides music professionals with the tools to create, communicate, and participate in this global multi-billion dollar music industry.
Interactive and communicate. Two great words and key to what it is we do. This is not simply a lecture with someone droning on for hours and hours, and hopefully you leave with some knowledge that was pertinent to what you do. These are all Q&A sessions, so you can ask the questions that you need answers to. You actually get to communicate and interact with these leaders of industry.
Either at the seminar itself, or you have the ability to purchase a ticket that allows you to have a personal 45 minute 1 on 1 session with an A&R executive. You can have them listen to your music and get critical feedback. And who knows. If you come with a strong business plan, you have hit your social media and you do have talent, YOU COULD GET SIGNED!
Last year we had Melanie Fiona pay us a visit, the President of Third Street Music Group, Troy Patterson as a panelist and our Keynote Speaker was none other than Pitbull’s manager, Robert Fernandez. This year, our Closing Keynote Speaker is from Drake’s management team, Johnny Silverstein.
That is the core of the conference, education. But what is education without a bit of fun as well?
Our mission statement is defined, in short, as the following:
“Entertainment through education, and Education through Entertainment.“
And CUMC has just what the doctor ordered. Last year we had a multitude of artists come on out and perform for us over the course of two nights, including Shi Wisdom, Fito Blanko, Lil Jaxe, Dubbs, Queen of Hearts, Culture Shock and a special performance by International Superstar Karl Wolf!
This year, we have CUMC Alumni Zolo, returning to perform his newly released single “Ready for the Night.” He will be joined by a slew of both new and developed artists including, Sage Harris, Toya Diamond, Chuck Mathis, Nancy Love, Tiff, Caligula, Passport, and more!
On Saturday night, at the Impact Awards, we will also be honoring the careers of Vivian Barkley from Warner/Chappell Music Canada and Canada’s own Legendary hip-hop queen, Michie Mee!
We have 2 nights filled with great music, and even greater people. The “Fun” portion of the conference… guaranteed.
CUMC. The Canadian Urban Music Conference. The only music conference in Canada to provide you with the essential tools to make it successfully in today’s ultra-fast industry, and offer real networking, real prizes and real business opportunities.
Network… Learn… and do Business.
This year’s conference is at:
