A STiXXclusive Sitdown with John River [Interview]

On October 25th at Toronto’s 1st Annual Edutainment Convention presented by R.I.S.E Edutainment, Jordan Hayles aka Mr. STiXX of The Stixxclusive Blog interviewed one of Toronto’s (and Canada’s) most promising young artists, John River. This is definitely an interview worth taking in. Listen to the entire interview below.

Toronto, ON – There’s not a lot to say about John River besides the fact that he’s one of the most inspiring people you’ll meet because of his personal stories of perseverance and dedication to his passion of Hip Hop. The multi-talented individual is due to make more waves as he continues to build upon his craft as a young and budding Hip Hop artist. The Calm (Listen & download here) is still out there to be downloaded, listened to, and vibed with, but in the meantime, we got a chance to sit down and talk about some things revolving his music, his life, and where he sees himself in the game. We sat down during day 1 of RISE Poetry’s inaugural Edutainment Convention, where he happened to be headlining with The Freedom Writers. It’s a great interview, so make sure you take a listen (no time for transcribing; I give you the whole thing raw). Shout out to the 905, one time.

Natasha was born and raised in Toronto. She graduated from York University almost 2 years ago and since then has co-founded a youth led, social enterprise called The Next Edition which uses media and art to engage youth with their community. For the past year and a half she has been working with young aspiring artists who are looking for a way to showcase their skills and have their voice heard. With juggling weekly meetings, managing a website, and planning events for hundreds of people Natasha takes refuge in urban music. Researching and knowing the latest headlines, and newest tracks in the hip-hop world is something that she loves. But more importantly for her hip-hop is a lot more than just a genre of music, it is a culture and it has shaped who she is today. Finding a way to combine her passion for music, the knowledge she has gained from working with young people and the issues she has seen in the community is a goal Natasha would like to achieve in the near future. Recently, Natasha has taken on PR work for rappers and DJs.
