Big Bear – Rap Without A Beat [Video]

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg-based rapper Big Bear recently dropped a video to accompany his “Rap Without A Beat” joint. You may know Big Bear as one half of Tri-Polar, or one half of the Breach Boys, or one third of the Filthy Animals. But this particular track is 100 per cent Big Bear.

“Rap Without A Beat” hits home for anyone who’s ever been to one of those shows where people are yelling about “real” hip-hop, and missing the point of it all. The beat was made by Quixotic a few years ago. But Quixotic has since given up music and production, all together. The video is not particularly polished. But the rawness of it all is refreshing. Give it a listen below.

HipHopCanada caught up with Big Bear and he explained to us that he’d penned the track on one of his recent downer days. “If you work a nine-to-five and suffer from cheque-to-cheque, don’t rap about selling drugs and being a hustler,” said Big Bear. “If you go out to a club and wait in line and pay for your drinks, don’t be talking [like] you some VIP all-star. Do you and that is real hip-hop.”
