Welcome to Mason’s World: Tony Mason’s view [Interview]
Vancouver, BC – Tony Mason has been heavy on the grind preparing his latest project Mason’s World for quite some time. Finally nearing the release date, we thought we’d give audiences a sneak preview of what to expect from this project and a little peek into the inner workings of Mason’s mind. Take a look at Tony Mason’s view after the jump and be sure to cop that Mason’s World dropping Novemeber 23.
HipHopCanada: You’re working on a few different projects including a clothing line and an album. What can you tell us about those things.
Tony Mason: My clothing line, YnR Suppy Inc. came a while back. YnR is our record company and also a team of successful individuals – Yung N Rich. The clothing came through a couple years back when I decided to get the logos printed on shirts and we sold out ’cause they were dope. So we made the clothing brand, Yung N Rich. It’s a lifestyle. Niggas wanna be young and rich and that’s our motto, so we work towards that.
My album Mason’s World is my first studio album and my biggest project to date. I can’t wait to share it with you all. It’s taken over a year and half to produce this album and get it to the right level, until it could do what it needs to do. Take you to a different world; Mason’s World. Perfection is key and I believe it’s perfect and I’ll be sharing with you all November 23. Shout out to my Dad, that’s his birthday.
HipHopCanada: The album cover is inspired by a painting called “Kosovo Maiden”. What’s the connection?
Tony Mason: The painting is by famous Serbian painter Uroš Predić called “Kosovo Maiden”. The painting meaning is crazy! It’s really an epic poem transformed into art. The original painting is a women looking for her husband in a Serbian war zone. She’s like helping all these warriors with water and wine on the way and she finds out her husband is dead. It’s crazy. On my album that’s the girl, the bad bitch, pouring lean into my mouth and bringing me back to life ’cause I’m a solider in my own war zone. The industry can be like a war zone. There’s liquor, there’s drugs, there’s girls…so many things out there that can make you or break you. We gotta stay focused and get through it sometimes smoking weed and lean helps to block out the bullshit.
HipHopCanada: So what can we expect from Mason’s World as far as features and production?
Tony Mason: Well Mason’s World in one word MASTERPIECE. I mean it took me almost to two years to make it and that’s production, writing, mixing and mastering. There are nine songs and believe me this album is gonna blow you away. Shout out to my brother Curtis Monumental and Mekaville, they were pretty much half and half with all the production. There’s also one song produced by my homie Bmercer. I gotta give a big shout out to my big bro Red 1 of the legendary Rascalz who has been supporting me and my movement YnR in Vancity for minute. I grew up listening to his shit all the time and now I’m blessed to have him featured on the album, crazy! On a record called “Yung Kings” which is bananas. It’s an uplifting record for all my young GODS out there. I got a girl named Rachel Ashmore on the album on a record called “You” which gets more into my relationship side with women. She’s part of the Vancouver band ByStarlight, they’re blowing up. She’s the homie, she’s a sweetheart – that’s a song everyone and their grandma gonna love. The album like I said is going to be a classic and I can’t wait to share it with you all November 23. Be on the lookout on my website www.iamtonymason.com
HipHopCanada: Last words?
Tony Mason: Lucas David Morgan is the amazing photographer behind taking the shot of my album cover. I actually brought him the idea when I met him late last year. Clayton Whelan is the man behind the YnR logos. Clayton did some of the work on the cover as well. Shout out to my brother HeatWave, Hi Heat dropping soon.
