Toronto, ON – Grammy award-winning producer, Boi-1da will head up the coaching team for Team Toronto, as they compete in the first-ever international team beat battle at SXSW 2014.

In March, 8 up-and-coming hit makers will fly from Toronto to Austin to compete against 8 producers from Texas. “There’s an art to battling and this is a really interesting approach to beat battles. It’s going to be fun,” says 1da who is no stranger to the beat battle circuit.

The event is a collaborative project between The Beat Academy and Space City Beat Battle, who have produced more than 20 producer-focused events featuring notable names such as Jake One, AraabMuzik, Symbolyc One and more since 2010.

“This event has been a long time coming. We’re glad that we were finally able to line things up to do it right with someone as talented and experienced as Boi-1da,” says Toni Morgan, Director of Strategy and Programming at The Beat Academy, “Anyone on the team is going to learn so much from him.”

Unlike typical beat battles, this one will require a coaching staff to design a battle strategy and trainers to help producers improve their sound. Producers will receive advice, support and mentorship from music industry insiders, including producers like Boi-1da.

Toronto/GTA-based producers have until Jan. 21 to enter the battle at http://www.thebeatacademy.com/battle.

The final team will be announced on Feb. 1.
