Montreal mourns loss of year’s first homicide victim, MC Ali Chaotik [News]

Montreal, QC – The Real City has sadly lost some prominent members of it’s hip-hop community to violence in recent years and on Sunday, Jan. 12, violence claimed another victim. 27-year-old Ali Chaotik was pronounced dead in the hospital after being shot in a Lachine apartment. According to CBC, the shooting occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Sherbrooke Street near 29th Avenue.

Elementality reported on the loss of Chaotik and the artist being a “hip-hop soldier” known “for his kind demeanour and for channelling his positive energy through his music, he left no heart untouched.” He was pursuing a career in music and had recently begun to see plans take shape – including opening a studio in Villeray and performing in various showcases. He was raised in the vibrant Haitian community of “Montreal-Nord” and celebrated his rare Haitian/Muslim upbringing, something he credited as playing a strong influence in his music. After getting caught up in the streets and a brief stay in Montreal’s Bordeau prison, Chaotik took a break from music but would return with a new outlook on his career’s potential. He decided to put out a more positive message and embraced the power and potential that words could have on a community – specifically his own community.

Chaotik was officially reborn with the release of his Back To The Basics mixtape, hosted by DJ Simon Sez, and delivered it with a distinct “golden era” feel. He would go on to release several more projects including Poetically Chaotik and the Undeniable EP. As Elementality put it, “most of his music had to do with spiritual enlightenment and making the best out of any situation.” His official website, states that he was working on his debut album, C.O.D (Confessions Of a Dopeboy) and his Twitter feed mentioned waiting on cover art for a project called Last of a Dead Breed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Chaotik’s friends and family – truly another significant loss for the Montreal scene. Rest In Peace.
