Naturally Born Strangers to take over Toronto’s Mod Club on Jan. 31 [News]
Toronto, ON – Toronto’s finest rhyme spitters Rich Kidd, Tona, and Adam Bomb have teamed up with Bryan Espiritu of Toronto based clothing line TheLegendsLeague to form Naturally Born Strangers, the audio component to the TheLegendsLeague’s F/W 13 collection avaialble at Livestock in Toronto (116 Spadina Ave.), at various retailers across Canada, and right here online at HipHopCanada and TheLegendsLeague.com.
On Friday, Jan. 31, they will be taking over Toronto’s Mod Club (722 College St.) for a special concert and pop-up shop showcasing the highly-popular new product line. In addition to the fall line, LegendsLeague is designing a special capsule exclusively available at the show. The event will be sponsored by NOW Toronto, Noisey, HipHopCanada, and Manifesto.
The full project, entirely produced by Rich Kidd who is closing out a landmark year in his buzzing career, is available in full via AudioMack and has already received wide coverage by the likes of Complex Magazine, Mass Appeal, OnSmash and plenty others.
With Espiritu at the creative helm, the clearly-defined visual aesthetic of this project is explained below:
“Naturally Born Strangers represents those born and raised different who don’t associate themselves with the common communal circles. It’s a proclamation of pride in the power of being disliked, unwanted or obscure, weird or foreign to the norm. It’s for the stranger and the more strange, the new community of outcasts, the antithesis to the neighbourhood and the cynics of its circles. NBS is the umbrella title to those influenced by much, deterred by nothing and unknown the world over. It’s a reflection of our societies vision of ‘normal.’ The queen is represented to create familiarity but has been tainted to identify the strange. TheLegendsLeague is both a creative agency and clothing company based in Toronto, Canada. Founded by Bryan Espiritu in 2007, it began as a blog platform that outlined his life experiences spanning from struggles with a history of domestic violence to suicide and being a young father. In 2008, the inaugural season of the clothing line was released under the name “IDEALL” which was an acronym for “Inspiration Driven Esthetic Apparel by TheLegendsLeague” as well as “I’ll Die Enormous And Live Lavish”. The design approach for TheLegendsLeague’s graphics has been simple: communicate a personal opinion on relatable ideals and concepts in ways that challenge or stimulate how people see, feel or think. Bryan Espiritu continues to design outside of graphics for TheLegendsLeague with clients including: LiveStock, Frank The Butcher, Drake and Nike. His solo art exhibit in 2011, “Because The Kids Don’t Play” was the biggest solo opening of any artist in Canadian history.
