Waka Flocka Flame hits the stage in Halifax [Review]
Halifax, NS – On Jan. 18, Belwiz Entertainment brought Waka Flocka Flame to Halifax with special opening guest, Sammie. The concert took place at the intimate Halifax Forum. The crowd was expecting a high-energy performance and concertgoers certainly weren’t disappointed. See how it all went down after the jump.
All of the opening acts brought energy and engaged the crowd. The show opened with an all-star lineup of Halifax rappers including Ys, Bowen, Critty, J-Bru, Miracle, Kayo, Jay Mayne and Cam Smith. Nova Scotia’s own R$ $mooth was behind the turntables between each set. There was a performance by Lynx and Nadasi from Winners Circle, and they brought RellzInYaGirl onto the stage with them. Quake Matthews took to the stage and made it clear that the audience needed to, “Turn the f*ck up.” He also brought out special guest Psyc Tha Prince. The local artists helped each other to showcase the talent within Halifax’s hip-hop scene.
Waka’s touring opener, Sammie, is most well-known for the hit song with Soulja Boy entitled “Kiss Me Through The Phone.” He had all the hearts melting with every note. His lineup included “You Should Be My Girl,” “Kiss Me Through The Phone,” “Wetter, Come With Me” and “I Like It.” His performance was a little on the short side, but his time on stage was unforgettable.
DJ Era was scheduled to make an appearance but unfortunately could not attend. However, DJ Johann was able to fill in. He got the crowd pumped for Waka Flocka with a 25-minute set of hip-hop hits. Waka Flocka Flame burst onto the stage, expressing his excitement to be Nova Scotia for the first time. After five minutes of being on stage he made his way into the crowd to party with his adoring Haligonians. Members of the audience surrounded him and showed impressive knowledge of all of his lyrics. Flocka soaked this up and hung out in the crowd for a prolonged period of time. both the artists and the fans of the local hip hop scene couldn’t ask for a better way to kick start 2014.
