Toronto, ON2014 JUNO Awards Nominations Announced – The diversity and talent of Canadian hip-hop will be well represented at the 2014 JUNO Awards. CARAS has released the nominations for this year’s award show and the hip-hop category features artists from coast-to-coast. All categories included, Drake received a total of four nominations and Enfield, Nova Scotia’s Classified picked up a pair.

The nominations for Rap Recording of the Year include Classified with his self-titled album, Classified (Halflife / Universal), Drake’s Nothing Was The Same (OVO Sound, Young Money, Cash Money, Republic), one of several recent releases by Naturally Born Strangers producer / MC Rich Kidd, In My Opinion (Independent), previous Rap Recording of the Year winner, London, Ontario’s own Shad with Flying Colours (Black Box / Universal), and Vancouver, B.C.’s SonReal with the single “Everywhere We Go” off of One Long Day (Black Box / Universal).

This is the second year in a row that SonReal and Rich Kidd have been nominated for Rap Recording of the Year, having lost last year to Classified, who has been nominated four times in the past five years. Drake has also been nominated four times in the past five years and has won the award twice including So Far Gone (2010) and Take Care (2012). On top of that, for the third time in four years, Drake has been nominated for two of the biggest categories, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year. Drake now has a total of 19 JUNO nominations and already has four wins to speak of.

In other hip-hop related nominations, Drake is also up for another JUNO Fan Choice Award, while Classified picked up a huge nomination in Single of the Year for “Inner Ninja” featuring David Myles. Additionally, D-Sisive’s “Friend of Mine,” directed by Briin ‘Briin?’ Bernstein and Daniel AM Rosenberg, also received a highly coveted nomination in the Video of the Year category, and Kardinal Offishall picked up a nomination in the R&B/Soul Recording of the Year category for the single, “Can’t Choose” by JRDN (other R&B/Soul winners are listed after the jump). Eminem picked up a nomination with The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (Interscope / Universal) for International Album of the Year, bringing the Detroit rapper to a lifetime total of five JUNO nominations including 2 previous wins. Ottawa’s A Tribe Called Red received a nod in the Breakthrough Artist of the Year category and picked up another nomination in Electronic Album of the Year for their album, Nation II Nation.

Another name worth mentioning is producer Henry “Cirkut” Walter who picked up nominations in a pair of categories including the Jack Richardson Producer of the Year award and Songwriter of the Year. Mostly behind the scenes, Cirkut is one of the most successful Canadian producers-songwriters in the game, having co-produced and co-written for Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, B.o.B., The Weeknd (“High For This”), Flo Rida, Britney Spears, Elle Goulding, will.i.am and Pitbull. Most recently, he’s credited with some of the top hits to recently receive significant radio play including Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” Katy Perry’s “Roar” as well as “Unconditionally” and several others. This doesn’t even come close to explaining how impressive Cirkut’s resume is.

The 2014 Juno Awards honours Canadian music industry achievements in the latter part of 2012 and in most of 2013. The awards will be presented in Winnipeg, Manitoba, during the weekend of March 29-30. The main ceremony will be conducted at the MTS Centre and televised on CTV.

Congrats and Good Luck to all of the JUNO Nominees!
