Rebecca Dawn – Friendship Crush ft. Cam the Human [Video]

Calgary, ABRebecca Dawn just released new visuals for the track “Friendship Crush” (featuring Cam the Human) off her forthcoming M.aking C.onnections album release. Rebecca Dawn has such a fresh take on dropping rhymes, and this video is proof.

Rebecca is fun. She’s expressive. And she’s nonjudgemental. She’s able to spread the love she has for her craft to people who probably wouldn’t otherwise have an appreciation for hip-hop. For example– I can’t rap, by any means. But I would totally throw a cypher down with Rebecca, if she asked me to. The video was directed by Johnny Tran, and edited by Wayne Yeung. Check it out below.

This video is such a great exemplification of what Rebecca Dawn is all about. It’s fun. It’s funky. And it gives some solid shine to some of our favourite Calgary heads: the dudes from Jazzlib Collective, the ContraVerse Crew members, Phareke, Whirly Bird, and Slim the Grim. Cam the Human (Jazzlib Collective) comes in for a feature verse, too. And he kills it. Then the video wraps up (or rather…raps up) with several minutes of sweet improvised playground cyphering.

Rebecca Dawn is releasing M.aking C.onnections on Mar. 4, but she’s hosting the album release party on Mar. 1 at Cafe Koi (1011 – 1 St. SW). It all goes down at 8 p.m. Cover is free until 9 p.m. And from 9 p.m. onwards, cover is $20, and includes an advance copy of the album. You’re in for a dope evening with live performances from Teekay (from Dragon Fli Empire), Brotherman, Rubix, Twizzie, Shelby Leiding, Sky Boi, EvryGurl, Jayzen, Slim the Grim and more. And if you get held up and can’t make it down to Koi, the performance will stream live online via Livestream.
