Rennie Harris brings Puremovement to Toronto on March 1 [News]
Toronto, ON – Originally posted Feb. 13, 2014 – Rennie Harris brings Puremovement to Toronto on Saturday, March 1 inside Koemer Hall. Tickets are starting at $35.00 and the showtime is 8 p.m. Here’s a description of the event:
“The Ambassador of Hip-Hop” Rennie Harris has received numerous awards for what he refers to as “Hip-Hop concert dance.” A Guggenheim Fellow, Harris has been known to mix Shakespeare with hip-hop, poetry, and rap music, into his dance performances. From the street and club dance scene in notorious North Philly, the raw, visceral energy of Puremovement’s dance is rooted in the rich African-American traditions. “Even if you didn’t know toprock from downrock or a pop from a crump, you had to admire the sheer magnitude of what the human body is capable of doing, as demonstrated by … this remarkably athletic and energetic company. But if you could look beyond your sheer amazement at the acrobatic – Can you really do three front flips in a row from a dead standstill? Did he seriously arch backwards in a headstand until his heels touched the ground behind him? – there was a vivid window into a world of gritty emotion.”
