Apollo – Stunna (Prod. Canis Major) [Audio]
Toronto, ON – Just hit play on T.O.-based rapper Apollo’s track “Stunna,” and you’re sure to have your head bobbing from the moment the beat drops. It sounds like something spewed out of New York’s trill-obsessed hip-hop scene. The track has a weighty beat (dutifully produced by Canis Major), and hears Apollo kicking out something that the ever-changing hip-hop scene of the screw face capital lacks. I’m referring to the highly-popular, codeine-infused trill sound that has transformed the careers of artists (like A$AP Rocky) overnight.
The dope thing about “Stunna” is that if you couldn’t already tell by the track’s artwork – a Cash Money Millionaires photo (circa the early 2000s) – this song is unabashedly about stunting. Check it out.
This track features a lot of heavy distortion, as well as some angelic Middle Eastern-sounding horns. One thing to love about this “Stunna” is that between Apollo’s stripped-down bars and Canis Major’s heavy bass beat, this production exists as straight-up transportation music.
Just hearing the flow that Apollo unleashes on “Stunna” makes me feel as if I am cruising around the Magnolia projects, blaring this song out of Juvenile’s white, drop-top Mercedes. You have to give it to Apollo though, spitting rhymes like “Single brown pimp/ With two kids to feed/ She’s working two jobs just to pay the fees/ That’s my mother/ She’s an angel, just to say the least” it’s clear that this rapper’s music has just as much substance as it does swag.
