CBC Music presents: Searchlight 2014 [News]

Toronto, ONCBC Music just launched its Searchlight 2014 competition to connect fans with their favourite up-and-coming Canadian artists. It’s a contest to give some shine – and some sweepstakes – to some of the best in Canada. As a fan, you can place 10 votes per region each day to help narrow down the competition to the semi-finals.

The grand prize winner receives $20,000 worth of music equipment from Yamaha Music Canada, a professional recording with CBC Music, and an opening spot on a high-profile music showcase. So this is a great way to show support to your favourites. You may not be able to gift your favourite rap-cat with $20,000 worth of Yamaha swag to advance his/her career. But if you troll the Internet and place those 10 daily votes, you can definitely assist in getting him/her that monstrously epic grand prize – which includes Yamaha swag.

Several of our favourite artists are participating in Searchlight 2014, and have reached out to let us know. So keep a look out for Buck N’ Nice (from Ottawa), Pimpton (from Regina), Rebecca Dawn and Jayzen (Calgary), Ursa Maja (Moose Jaw), Spesh K (Toronto), and more. And if you’re participating in Searchlight 2014, feel free to leave us a link to your CBC profile in the comment section below, and we’ll add you in to this post. Best of luck to everyone. Looking forward to seeing Canadian hip-hop in the Searchlight.

About Searchlight 2014

The contest is divided into several rounds, and this round will choose the regional semi-finalists. So don’t just vote for your favourite band. Vote for all the bands you think deserve attention and radio play, in your region and across Canada.

You can always find the polls here on the Searchlight homepage in the “Vote now!” tab, the regional pages listed below, as well as links to vote for specific artists on their CBC Music artist profiles. You can find playlists of the local acts on the regional pages.

And fans: just by voting, you are eligible for some great prizes from Yamaha Canada Music. So make sure you put your name in for some great prizes.

Voting for this round ends on April 6.
