Toronto, ONCanadian Music Week has announced the nominees for the 2014 SiriusXM Indies – 14th Annual Independent Music Awards. Canadian hip-hop is well represented among the nominated artists being honoured across 37 categories.

Enfield, Nova Scotia rapper-producer, Classified, leads the pack with a total of six nominations while Shad sits just behind the Maritimes star with four. The nominations for the Rap/Hip-Hop Artist/Group or Duo of the Year category includes those two guys along with Winnipeg’s Grand Analog, Toronto’s Rich Kidd and Vancouver’s SonReal.

Rich and SonReal also picked up a nomination under Collaboration of the Year for their work on The Closers. Kardinal Offishall picked up a nod in the same category for his work with JRDN on “Can’t Choose,” and Drake is featured on The Weeknd’s “Live For” single, also nominated for being a top collaboration. In the Songwriter of the Year category, Canadian hip-hop is represented by CP Records artist and songwriter, Belly, acknowledged for his work with The Weeknd, Mia Martina, Massari and other artists.

In what is considered to be the most important categories for many award show enthusiasts, Canadian hip-hop has a shot at both. Shad’s Flying Colours is up for Album of the Year and Classified’s “Inner Ninja” can take home Single of the Year. Both MCs have a shot at the Artist of the Year distinction.
