Tonight: Open Mic Friday dedicated to Murda Marz inside Toronto’s Red Parrot [News]
Toronto, ON – We’ve just gotten word that tonight’s Open Mic Fridays inside Red Parrot (685 Lansdowne Ave.), has been dedicated to MC/filmmaker Murda Marz, 25, who was killed early Friday. The event, which is free to attend, has been tagged as Celebrating the life of Murda Marz, and features performances by 20 artists. Since the line-up for the event was set more than a week ago, it’s unlikely that each of the artists has a personal connection to Marz, but at least some do. It’s a nice tribute to a fellow member of the Toronto scene that had first gotten started back in 2007. Along with the live performances, Marz’s tunes will also be playing throughout the evening. Marz is originally from North Preston, Nova Scotia, but had moved to Regent Park in Toronto.
The line-up consists of WillDridge, Ajay, Double Up, Killa Kip, SPACE-LEAD, SKitSo, Teddy TrixStylez, Erik Flowchild, Rappunzall MDC, Zenith Prime, Greezy Deckz, Babu G, Soul Deep, Don Hatali, J-WHITE, Jennifer Gold, Luka M, Priceless and Scottfreez.
As part of the tribute, Toronto promoter Fred E Fame issued a special edition of his Legends of the Fame Canadian hip-hop trading card series. The special edition packs of the cards feature Murda Marz on the cover (as pictured) and will be given away for free at tonight’s event. Marz was originally featured in Fred E’s second run of the trading card series back in 2011:
“The reason why I’m doing a tribute is because he always show me respect. It was the least I could do. He was featured in the trading card collection because I was a fan of his music. I invited him on.”
