Breakdancing Buddhist monks pay tribute to Beastie Boy, MCA [Video]
Brooklyn, NY – This past Saturday Beastie Boys fans from around the world gathered in Brooklyn to honor rapper Adam Yauch aka MCA, who passed away in 2012 after a long battle with cancer.
The third annual MCA Day celebrations featured events and performances at the Littlefield Performance and Art Space in Brooklyn. Not far away at Union Square, the site of the first MCA Day, four Buddhist monks payed tribute to MCA and the group by running a breakdance routine to some of their biggest hits.
It wasn’t clear if these were actual Buddhist monks, or just b-boys in costume, but the tribute was real. MCA was a Buddhist, a big supporter of Tibetan independence and organized the Tibetan Freedom Concert series. Check out the tribute footage after the jump.
