Bun B: The Trill O.G. stops in the YEG [Review]
Edmonton, AB – On May 2, the King of Houston – Bun B – made a stop at YEG Dance Club in Edmonton on his Canadian leg of The Trillest Tour (brought to us by our good friends over at Pearl Entertainment). Along with Bun B, opening local acts for the evening included No Question & A.C.E., Muta Mouraine, Rome Angel, Young Tox, Joey Durt & Petros, and Ol Skool. Great line up. But unfortunately – with the crowd trickling in one-by-one – it made for a slow start. The openers all made the most of it, though; they had lots of energy and you could tell they enjoyed performing (that’s what it’s about, after all).
In between sets, resident DJ TNT kept the vibe going with a mix of hip-hop’s freshest club tracks. I can admit I did a little two-step… by myself… but let’s move on. Shortly after midnight, DJ duo Thugli came on with a solid set of electronic and hip-hop beats, which finally got the crowd to the dance floor. After that the tone was set.
Bun B graced the crowd at 1 a.m. and played a (short) set of hits including UGK’s classic, “Pocket Full of Stones” and “Trillionaire” from Bun’s Trill OG album. I’d say the highlight of the night was when Bun dropped his verses from the legendary “Big Pimpin,” which obviously was well received by the entire crowd.
The Edmonton stop of The Trillest Tour may not have had the biggest turnout, but Bun B doesn’t have anything to prove at this point of his career. It’s all about the music – and everyone is still rapping his lyrics right along with him. That’s Trill OG status, in my opinion.
