Calgary, AB – Calgary, get ready for KOTD! Tonight marks the official start to the King of the Dot West Coast Squad Tour which gets started in Calgary tonight, and wraps up on the 26th in Vancouver. In between they’ll be reaching Edmonton (July 19), Fort McMurray (July 20), Kelowna, BC (July 23), and Castlegar, BC (July 25). Tonight’s event in Calgary takes place inside the Bronco Smokehouse & Saloon (130, 1011 1 Street SW).

Each of the 6 tour dates is guaranteed to feature some familiar KOTD faces including big wigs Organik, Gully TK and Bishop Brigante, along with freestyle champion, Charron, and beatbox champion, Scott Jackson.

To get a bit more info about what to expect on the West Coast Squad Tour, we connected with co-host Bishop Brigante. Make sure you check out the Q&A after the jump link below.

It should be noted that Kelowna has 2 other events going down that are connected to the tour. On July 22, Organik and Bishop will be in Kelowna for an event titled Come Vape With Us and then a boat cruise on July 23, immediately before the Squad Tour event. Flyers are also after the jump.

Bishop Brigante: Q&A

HipHopCanada: Have the MCs already been decided for the 8 Man Freestyle Tournament in Calgary (hosted by Charron)? If not, how can they get involved?

Bishop Brigante: Nah, the freestyle tournament is basically a free for all but first come first get served type of set up. It wouldn’t be fair to those participating if others had time to prepare writtens to help secure a win. You’ll basically have to get to the venue early and sign up to be involved.

HipHopCanada: Will each of the 6 tour dates feature a similar tournament?

Bishop: Yes, that’s the reason we’re bringing guys like Charron and DNA on our Squad Tours. These guys are champions and will get in the ring with anyone. when it comes to battling, these guys are always ready.

HipHopCanada: Sketch Menace is coming in as a special co-host for the Calgary event. Shouts to Sketch Menace. Can you reveal any other special guests the tour will feature?

Bishop: We brought Sketch out for that event specifically cause he is the Calgary division president. So it wouldn’t make sense not to have him as a special guest. We also have Merkulese (Stompdown, Stealth Bomb Records) in the building for Kelowna.

HipHopCanada: Will you be performing at each of the 6 dates? How about Scott Jackson?

Bishop: Both Scott Jackson and myself do full sets at all of the shows. It’s actually a crazy event all around because there is so much entertainment for the night. From battle rap, to beat boxing and a live hip-hop show. It’s always a good time.

HipHopCanada: Between Alberta and BC, which MCs are you excited about? Who’s coming up that people should check for?

Bishop: I mean, I’m a big fan of Fingaz (even though he’s from Scarborough originally) and he’ll be battling tonight in Calgary. And we also have the Ground Zero title match up in Vancouver on the 26th too which will be crazy for sure. I’m personally looking for new blood to cycle into Ground Zero and King Of The Dot for the next generation of battle rap stars.

HipHopCanada: For the battle rap fans out in Saskatchewan, is there any chance we’ll see the tour reach a city like Regina or Saskatoon in the near future?

Bishop: I would LOVE that. We just need a promoter out there who cares enough about the culture to put that on for the real supporters out there. It’s tough.

HipHopCanada: Saskatchewanian promoters take note! How about a next tour? East Coast Squad Tour?

Bishop: Absolutely. We’re dying to make the East Coast happen. It’s in the works now, we just need to get some paper work done and we’ll all be on the first plane smoking. I love the East Coast so much. It’s a beautiful part of the country that we need to visit more often. The supporters out there are great too.

HipHopCanada: Bishop, aside from the current tour, which KOTD event are you looking forward to the most?

Bishop: That’s hard to say, because I love all of the events. But if I had to choose right now, I’ll say I’m excited for when we do our Blackout events. Just because the theme and the energy is always so crazy. Plus it’s the event that we also try to experiment with to make it more enjoyable for the supporters.

HipHopCanada: For someone just getting familiar with King of the Dot and what battle rap has to offer, can you name 1 must see battle, old or new, that they need to check for?

Bishop: I would personally say that the top 3 battles to check for would be Pat Stay vs. Hollohan, Kid Twist vs. Dumbfounded, and Rum Nitty vs. Danny Myers. That’s personals, comedy and bars.

HipHopCanada: Any last words about the tour? Other plugs?

Bishop: Shouts out to my brothers Organik, Gully TK, Scott Jackson, Revy the God and Charron. But mostly shout out to all the supporters coming out all across Canada for the KOTD Squad Tour.

HipHopCanada: See you there!
