About J Shiltz
A rumbling bass line, vintage piano, and boom bap drums introduced the world to J Shiltz – In 2010 the Sauga City emcee made his debut with the Kev Brown produced single “Louder”. The song went on to be featured on the 2010 edition of the Stylus / HipHopCanada Who’s Got Next compilation, and in many ways paved the way for what would be the first official album from J Shiltz, What I Stand For. Released in November of 2011, the album featured a whose who list of Toronto based beat makers – Rich Kidd, Junia-T, and Lancecape to name a few – and top notch features from some of Toronto’s dopest spitters, not to mention Detroit legends Frank Nitt and Illa J. With worldwide spins and two Much Vibe certified flicks the album was in the eyes of many a T-Dot underground classic. Suffice to say it put the Sauga City native on the radar.
In May of 2013 Shiltz released the critically acclaimed follow up – Still Standing. The album followed a similar formula – banging beats, doperhymes, compelling features, and crisp cuts. With production from Rich Kidd, Relic, Lancecape, Junia-T, and more – plus features from the likes of Rapper Big Pooh, A.G of D.I.T.C, Ray Robinson, and Phoenix Pagliacci – the album was the follow up heads had been waiting for. Two Much Vibe certified flicks, a two month stint on Canadian college radio’s top ten, and spins and blog coverage from Toronto to Germany then Japan and back solidified the album as one of the summers hottest, but most slept on underground releases.
A year has passed since the release of Still Standing and during that time J Shiltz has honed his craft and evolved into something greater. Working tirelessly to produce his best effort yet – his tentatively untitled third album is sure to deliver what fans have come know him for – dope beats, and dope rhymes – but until then, take in the off-the-wall and uncut Junia-T produced “P.S.A.”
