Enigma – Life I Chose [Video]
Calgary, AB – Calgary-based MC Enigma recently dropped his latest visuals for the track “Life I Chose” (off The BRAVADO EP). The video opens up with the serenity prayer – often seen in 12 step groups and the likes: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” And that sets the stage for a solidly introspective video about following along the path of a life you’ve chosen to live.
A lot of rap cats can get really entitled and whiny when ish doesn’t go their way. Like, “Yo. Why can’t I be the best rapper in the world. What does Drizzy Drake have that I don’t? WAHHHHH.” But Enigma doesn’t play it like that. The track was produced by Platinum Sellars and the video was directed by Levente Kovacs for LK Visuals (who I would like to give some proper daps to; LK started doing hip-hop videos for the Calgary kinfolk last year and has really polished up). Check the video after the jump.
The first cut of the video shows Enigma running through the snow. Which is deep and metaphorical because it represents the struggle of trudging through something to take you to your destination. Then we see some clips of Enigma working in the studio, penning some raps, crumpling up said penned raps, and then penning more raps. We also get to take in some 10 at 10 footage of Enigma (side note: we featured Enigma as our 10 at 10 Spotlight back in May 2014).
Then Enigma goes to church and prays. Because despite the fact that he’s chosen his life, he’s not completely self-reliant. He wants us to know that he’s had some guidance on the spiritual side of things. And then he shows love to the YYC by heading to the McMahon Stadium and rapping while wearing his freshest Calgary Stampeders swag. And then he climbs a mountain – a motherf**king mountain – to finish off the video. So to break this all down for you: Enigma just accomplished more in a five-minute video, than I have managed to accomplish this year. I’d say he’s living the life he chose. He takes full ownership for his path to success – and he’s suggesting that it’d be wise for us all to do the same.
