Ian Kamau & Jai Nitai – You I [Video]

Toronto, ON – Toronto recording artist Ian Kamau just teamed up with Montreal-based producer, Jai Nitai, to bring us these beautiful new visuals for their collaborative track entitled “You I.”

This song is an anthem for the uncomfortable unknowns of modern-day relationships; the “ifs” and the “maybes” that put us on-the-edge. Ian brings us into it with a soulful set of vocals and a hauntingly intimate hook: “If I wasn’t in your heart/ Would I be on your mind?”. Think about that for a minute. That’s deep. Then he gets into his bars and muses over the tug-and-pull of being in a couple; and the struggle to go from being just “you” and “I” to a combined force that is “You I.” Now I am a puddle of emotions. Ugh. The video was directed by Jai Nitai. Check it after the jump.

There’s also a really cool backstory behind the recording of this song. Ian and Jai have known each other since 2012. In June 2014, Ian found himself in Montreal attending a theatre festival. He spent an evening having dinner with Jai and his family. And at the end of the night, they recorded this song together. And now they’ve released it for your listening pleasure.
