k-os – WiLD4TheNight (EgoLand) [Video]

Toronto, ONOriginally published August 8, 2014 – On Aug. 6, k-os dropped some dope new visuals for the track “WiLD4TheNight (EgoLand)” off his forthcoming sixth studio album, Can’t Fly Without Gravity (to be released via Dine Alone Records). The video was shot at Carnival in k-os’ native Trinidad last year.

As you could probably guess from the track’s title, this joint is all about getting WiLD4TheNight (as opposed to – you know – wild for the night; because you rap cats like to spell weird and stuff). This track isn’t promoting a lifestyle of popping bottles and turning up at all hours of the day. It’s about letting go of your inhibitions for the night and getting a little bit freakier than usual. The video was directed by k-os, produced by Che Kothari and edited by Brendan Woollard. Peep it after the jump.

This video is realest of the real. Most of those “get wild” video I see are based on the gist of, “Yo. Let’s rent a Benz for the day, roll a bunch of joints, get some faded video girls, and drink. It’ll look really wild. And then we can tell people to wild-out and turn-up. And it will be the best and hardest rap video that ever happened. YEAH! WE WILD!” That’s me paraphrasing. But you get the idea.

k-os isn’t doing that, though. He takes us into his own world and instead of rolling up to the club, he takes us to Trinidad and emerges us into a sea of headdresses, bouncing bodies, and people who are cooler than you will ever be. Then he covers himself in mud for a bit. And then he temporarily dons a golden headdress and gets wiggly jiggly with the Caribbean girls. Then he raps in front of Fatima College for a bit. He also makes some pretty cool friends along the way. Like the dude chillin’ with flowers on his head at 0:47. Or Birdman – as in, an actual man dressed like a bird (not the rapper) at 1:12. And that grandma shaking it at 2:39. Or the Raggedy Ann-ish painted party peeps at 3:37. And all those pretty ladies in headdresses. Everywhere. Anyways. Happy Friday, people! Go get get WiLD4TheNight and get lost in the Egoland.
