Nillie – #SleepyheadzZz (Prod. Triple A) [Video]

Calgary, AB – Calgary-based MC Nillie just hit us with a Mista Hindz-directed video that was released earlier on in the summer for Nillie’s track entitled “#SleepyheadzZz.” This track comes to us off of his forthcoming mixtape of the same name (which is slated for release very soon).

“#SleepyheadzZz” is a very serious wake-up call (pun totally intended, there) for the music fans who are sleeping on Nillie. He comes in on this floaty sampled beat (produced by Triple A), and hits us with a flow to remember him by.

As a rap cat, it’s easy enough to spend your time whining about how everyone is sleeping on you. For real. This is a very frequent occurrence. And I’m ‘a be real with you guys: I sleep on a lot of music. There’s so much out there right now that it’s actually impossible to take it all in. So instead of getting his knickers in a knot over it all, Nillie made a track about it. And he used the track to prove his case: he shouldn’t be slept on. Seriously. That flow, though. This joint also serves as a warning shot fired at Nillie’s fellow rap cats: you can’t stay sleeping in this game. Hustle is bond: “I’d rather do it and not make it/ Than not do it at all.”

Here’s the thing about Nillie – when you meet him in person, he’s a total gentleman. He’s not shy, by any means. But he’s not loud and extroverted, either. But once he hits the stage or cranks out a rhyme, a light switches on. Nillie goes from being relatively reserved to wilding the f**k out. Potentially one of the wildest MCs that performs in the YYC.

I first caught a Nillie performance just over a year ago at Commonwealth’s Calgary HipHop-sponsored Let’s Rebuild fundraiser. There was a cypher on the stage and some dude came up and said he was from Montreal. He proceeded to spit some of the fastest bars ever. He was drenched in sweat and his hair was sticking to his face. And I kept my ear to the ground on him. I eventually found out who he was when he dropped a Hot 16 video via LK Visuals. And I’ve been keeping up on him ever since.
