Win tickets to see Zion I & Aileron live in Calgary [Contest]

Calgary, AB – On Oct. 11, our fam over at True Rhythm bring the legendary Zion I duo to Calgary for a show at Dickens Pub (1000 9 Ave SW). That’s right – one of your favourite amp-up West Coast duos from the ’90s is going to be rolling through Western Canada. Zion I is performing with tour support from VanCity’s own Aileron crew. Local support for the evening will be provided by Natural Ensemble, Jazzlib Collective, and Will Snypes. 

Doors open at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $20, and are available for purchase over here, as well as at Grass Roots, Le Rock, The Next Level and Sloth Records.

About: Zion I

Zion I is an American hip hop duo from Oakland, California, consisting of Baba Zumbi and Amp Live. Zion I released the debut album, Mind Over Matter, in 2000. It was nominated for “Independent Album of the Year” by The Source magazine. The second album, Deep Water Slang V2.0, was released in 2003. True & Livin’ was released in 2005, featuring guest appearances from Gift of Gab, Talib Kweli, and Aesop Rock.

Heroes in the City of Dope, the first collaborative album with The Grouch, was released in 2006. Zion I released the sixth album, The Take Over, in 2009. Zion I released the seventh album, Atomic Clock, in 2010. Heroes in the Healing of the Nation, the second collaborative album with The Grouch, was released in 2011. The duo’s ninth album, Shadowboxing, was chosen by SF Weekly as one of their “10 Best Bay Area Hip-Hop Records of 2012”.
