Common and Jay Electronica perform at Kool Haus on Dec. 11 [News]
Toronto, ON – On Dec. 11, the good folks over at Forty Four Entertainment and Maxamus Entertainment bring Common to Toronto for a stop along his Nobody’s Smiling Tour. And what’s more – Jay Electronica is going to be there too. This is monstrous; seriously monstrous.
It all goes down at Kool Haus (132 Queen’s Quay East), with doors opening at 8 p.m. Admission is $49.99, and tickets are available online, as well as at Play De Record, Soundscape, and Rotate This.
For the record: Common just dropped his tenth studio album titled Nobody’s Smiling. Now Common’s a pretty emotional dude, as it is. But this project gave us a much more personal dip into the mind of Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. The album’s title and concept was derived from the ongoing violence and crime in Common’s hometown Chicago. The album features guest appearances from everyone. Seriously. Big Sean is on there. Hip-hop’s honey of the year – Jhené Aiko – is on there. Vince Staples, too. And ya heard “Speak My Piece?” That track pays serious homage to Biggie with that “Hypnotize” sampling. So basically, what I’m getting at here is that this show is going to be massive.
Last time we caught Common he was – in fact – actually smiling (contrary to this whole “Nobody’s Smiling” business). Our Calgary team caught Common’s performance at Afrikadey! back in 2013. And our HHCLA connect snapped some photos of a more recent show Common performed at the House of Blues in L.A. Anyways, a Common show is something that brings wholeness and completion to your life. For real. Toronto, get on this ASAP.
