PARTYNEXTDOOR wins over Vancouver [Review]
Vancouver, BC – Walking up the stairs to Fortune Sound Club the smell of Pabst Blue Ribbon and Axe Body Spray filled the air. The show started at 10:30 on the dot as OVO Sound artist PARTYNEXTDOOR, hailing from Mississauga, stepped on stage in front of a sold-out crowd with his intro “Welcome To The Party”.
Being a huge fan of him and hearing various rumours about previous shows, it was a relief when he completely killed it. Running though tracks from his first self-titled mixtape, he played half of each song without missing a step, transitioning through “Break From Toronto”, “Make A Milli”, “Wild Bitches” and “Right Now” then slowing things down with “Curious” and “Muse”. He kept the show moving smoothly and the attention was there the whole time. Party took a quick break to turn up and pour a couple shots for the fans who pushed their way to the front of the crowd while the DJ played some of his friend’s music.
He got back into it and played all new songs from the PARTYNEXTDOOR Two mixtape. Everyone in the building sang along word for word as he ran through the list of crowd favourites. It was refreshing to see an artist who didn’t demand the crowd make noise after every song, even though they still screamed, wanting more. Party kept it humble with a big smile on his face the whole time.
Closing the show with his latest single “Recognize”, the place went off. He thanked them and said “I wish I could play longer, but you know… I only have two mixtapes” as he walked off the stage. Fortune chanted “PARTY!” until they were tired of yelling and the evening’s DJ took over. After all was said and done he put on a great show; he was on key and he gave the fans what they wanted. No doubt he will be back soon to a much bigger venue.
